The Continuing Adventures of The Flying Pumpkin and Iron Taint.

A new chapter in the unbelievably intriguing saga of The Flying Pumpkin and Iron Taint took place last weekend as Adam and I conquered (i.e., survived) the Shiner G.A.S.P., a 100 mile ride through rolling hills and incessant wind from Austin to Shiner, Texas. As is my custom, I had not been on my bike in 9 months. Since August 2010' I had logged exactly zero miles in the saddle. Hence, my nickname, Iron Taint, earned after multiple years of beginning the cycling season with a butt-numbing century ride sans any training. Not exactly ideal, but we finished... in 7 brutal hours directly into a headwind. And I do mean directly. The entire ride is southeast--exactly the same direction out of which 20-30 mph wind gusts blew endlessly and increasingly throughout the day. But at least they had cold beer and brats at the finish line.

I played in my first multi-day golf tournament last weekend.  Using every bit of my 18.2 handicap, I was able to hit some nice shots.  On day two, I birdied a par 5 to win a skin.  And when the tournament was all said and done, my partner and I placed 3rd in our flight.

p.s. I updated my race calendar.  Time to hit it.
