I love this picture Nell took of me playing guitar for Ezra after a jog. It combines three things I love--my son, running, and music.

If you find yourself in Fort Worth, Texas tomorrow night, stop by Joe T's to catch the debut performance of The Dirty Muppets, my newest "side project." Our trio of musicians will be playing from 7 pm to 8 pm and 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the back garden.

Or join us a week later at Cretia's on McKinney in uptown Dallas for an encore performance starting at 9 pm.
Rock. On. ¿Si?

Last weekend, Nell and I watched the film, “Into the Wild.” Several years ago, I read Jon Krakauer’s book upon which the movie is based. The story of Christopher McCandless, an idealistic wanderer who shunned his privileged upbringing to live a simple life traveling the country, ultimately dying alone in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wilderness, is simultaneously tragic and uplifting. I highly recommend both the film and the book. And the soundtrack. Eddie Vedder’s original songs beautifully capture the spirit of McCandless’ journey. Together, the book, movie, and soundtrack are among the best I’ve experienced in a long time.

226 folks already signed up for El Scorcho. That's as many entrants as we had last year, and there are still 3 months until the run. It's gonna be big and fun.

My buddy, Jason "J-Balls" Costantino's wife has recently posted a very nice description of her husband on her blog:

"Jason is an ultra marathoner, which means he runs more than the 26.2 required for normal marathons on a regular basis."

There's just one problem.

J-Balls doesn't run ultramarathons on a regular basis. Heck, he doesn't run them on an irregular basis. As I told him upon reading his wife's post, "I gotta call b.s."

Feel free to bombard his blog with unfriendly comments.

Here are a couple pics from last week's marathon.
For the past year and a half, I've been focusing on distance and haven't done any speed training, so I was pleasantly surprised to run my 3rd fastest marathon to date. Cloud cover kept the sun away until the last hour. I felt good the entire race, and I picked up the pace for the last 8 miles. I ran the second half 3 minutes faster than the first half.

Marathon time -- 3 hrs, 58 mins, 41 secs (9:06 min per mile).

95th overall out of 501 finishers.

I ran the second half of the race 3 minutes faster than the first half.
Pics and a summary coming soon.
